The much awaited Mumbai Metro Line-I, which will connect Versova to Ghatkopar, via Andheri, was thrown open for public use on 8 June, 2014.
The first metro train was flagged off on the 11.4 km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar elevated stretch by Prithviraj Chavan, Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Mumbai Metro Line-I having a total length of 11.4 km, will have 12 elevated stations. Trains will be available every four minutes and will provide about 200-250 services a day. Each rake with four coaches will have a capacity of around 375 passengers, while the entire train can transport 1,500 commuters per service.
The project has been developed by Mumbai Metro One (MMOPL) at a cost of Rs 4,321 crore. MMOPL is a joint venture company formed by Reliance Infrastructure, Veolia Transport, and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority.
