The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas will soon approach the Union Cabinet for about Rs 6,000 crore in viability gap funding (VGF) for the proposed gas grid in the Northeast.
Indradhanush Gas Grid (IGGL), a joint venture (JV) of Indian Oil (IOC), the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), GAIL, Oil India (OIL), and Numaligarh Refinery, plans to lay 1,600 km Northeast gas grid at a cost of about Rs 10,000 crore.
IGGL will need about 60 percent funding support from the Central government for this. The pipeline will connect to the proposed national grid at Guwahati.
