Vadodara’s remaining Vishwamitri river project work will be completed within a year, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced at an urban innovation and infrastructure summit.
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation, and the Irrigation Department had already finished most tasks scheduled before the monsoon, following recommendations by the Navalawala committee formed after the 2024 floods. CM Patel emphasised balancing development with environmental conservation, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to protect natural resources. He highlighted the expanded role of municipal corporations, which now manage not just roads, water, and power, but also hospitals, sports complexes, parks, and gyms.
Long-term measures include constructing a gated check dam parallel to the Anwa reservoir, diverting water from Ajwa reservoir to Jambuva river, and building check dams upstream of Ajwa reservoir on the Vishwamitri river. The state government has allocated Rs 1,200 crore for the project, with regular progress monitoring.
