German-based automaker, Volkswagen Group, is planning to expand production capacity and set up a design centre in Chakan near Pune, Maharashtra.
The company is planning to raise the production capacity marginally to two lakh units per annum from 1.8 lakh units. It will also increase the localisation level from 82 percent to around 90 percent in a year.
The company will pour Rs 8,000 crore in phases in the design centre, development of new models and other activities.
The company is aiming to achieve a market share of five percent in India by 2025, from the current 1.8 percent, across brands. Additionally, for the Volkswagen brand, the company aims to raise the share to three percent in five years.
