Western Railway has achieved a milestone with the commissioning and energisation of India’s first 2x25 kV electric traction system at the Nagda-Khachrod section under Ratlam Division.
The system features two Scott-connected 100 MVA Power Transformers for efficient load feeding to the Overhead Equipment (OHE), marking the first nationwide use of Scott Technology in a traction substation. Inaugurated by Ranjan Srivastava, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, this development aligns with the ambitious "Mission Raftaar" initiative to enhance energy efficiency, traction power, and train speeds.
The project was executed through coordinated efforts by Ratlam’s Divisional Electrical Engineering team, Western Railway’s Construction Department, TRD team, and EPC contractor BNC Power Projects. BNC was the first EPC contractor to handle the design, supply, erection, and commissioning of the 2x25 kV Overhead Electrification System for Western Railway.
This commissioning represents a significant leap in Indian Railways’ efforts toward innovation, infrastructure modernisation, and improved passenger experience.
