Work on the 450 MW Baglihar power project, Stage-II, of Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation is likely to begin soon.
The project envisages setting up of a 450 MW (3 x 150 MW) hydel power unit (Stage-II), with a total investment of Rs 3,113.19 crore. The foundation stone of stage-II will be laid shortly. The financial closure of the project has already been achieved with a loan component of Rs 2,179.23 crore, out of which Rs 1,679.23 crore has been sanctioned by Power Finance Corporation (PFC), while Rs 500 crore has been sanctioned by Jammu and Kashmir Bank. The project is expected to be commissioned in August 2015.
The Baglihar project has been conceived on the River Chenab with a generation capacity of 900 MW of power, to be developed in two stages of 450 MW each, with a common dam near Ramban. Stage-I has already been completed.
