The World Bank (WB) is likely to provide $1 billion (approx Rs 4,500 crore)
for Mission Clean Ganga which aims to clean up the river by 2020.
Initiated under the National Ganga River Basin Authority, the project has got
under way with the objective that no untreated municipal sewage or industrial
effluent will be discharged into the national river by 2020. The project cost is
estimated at Rs 15,000 crore over ten-years period.
