DMRC has completed the tunnelling work on the over 1,440 mtr long Shalimar Bagh-Azadpur underground stretch.
This work is part of the Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor of Phase-III network of the Delhi Metro and it consists of around 14 km of underground lines.
On 9 January 2014, the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) started its work and completed it on 7 November.
At Azadpur, the tunnel is at 18 mtr depth, and 16 mtr at Shalimar Bagh. On this stretch, six cross passages have been made at a depth of 30 mtr, and other tunnel work of 1,443.50 mtr is projected to be completed within a fortnight.
DMRC built 20 mtr underneath the existing Northern Railways' Ambala track near Azadpur to carry out construction of this stretch without hampering the railway traffic for even a single day. On a single day, around 80 trains run through this railway line.
