The Northeast Frontier Railway is looking to commission the new Jiribam-Imphal railway line by March 2018.
The work on Jiribam-Imphal railway line will be undertaken in two phases. In Phase-I, the work will be undertaken on Jiribam-Tupul section of the railway line, which is expected to be completed by March 2016, whereas in Phase-II, work will be undertaken on the section between Tupul and Imphal.
For the Jiribam-Tupul section, about 1,310 ha of land will be required and of this, construction work is in progress for 1,263 ha.
For this project, about 112 minor bridges, six major bridges, three road over-bridges (ROB) and two road under-bridges (RUB) will be constructed. Out of which, work on 52 minor bridges and construction of ROBs and RUBs has been completed.
For Phase-I, there will be six new station buildings, out of which work for one station building is in progress. Along with this, a 12.5 km track linking the main line from Jiribam to Dholakhal section, and the 1.20 km of loop line have also been completed.
In Phase-II, work will be undertaken on the 27 km stretch between Tupul and Imphal section. For this section, final location survey has already been completed and an amount of Rs 1,397 crore has been sanctioned by the Railway Board. This stretch is expected to be completed by March 2018.
