Saint-Gobain plans to open a glass plant at Bhiwadi, in Haryana, by next week, with an estimated investment of Rs 1,000 crore.
This manufacturing plant is spread across 136 acre of land, with a capacity of around 1,000 tonne glass a day. Once the plant becomes fully functional by mid-2015, it will have a total installed capacity of producing 9,000 tonne of glass each day. By 2020, it plans to double its production from one million to two million.
At present, Saint-Gobain has manufacturing facilities at Jhagadia, in Gujarat, and Sriperumbudurin, Tamil Nadu, and an R&D centre at Chennai, and it operates in 64 countries.
Last year, the company had a turnover of Rs 4,500 crore and expects to have a turnover of Rs 4,800 crore by the end of this year.
