GAIL (India) announced the
commissioning of the Dahej - Vijaipur pipeline project on
Wednesday (31 March 2004). The 610 km pipeline from Dahej -
Vijaipur with a capacity to transport 23 million cubic metre of
natural gas, entailed an investment of Rs.2,936 crore.
The project has been completed 14
months ahead of schedule so as to evacuate regassified LNG from
Dahej. The first phase of the pipeline from Dahej to Vemar was
completed on 29 February 2004. From Vijaipur onwards, the
existing Hazira - Vijaipur - Jagdishpur (HVJ) network of Gail
will supply regasified liquefied natural gas (LNG) to consumers
along the route till Delhi.
The pipeline construction activity
was caried out simultaneously in four spreads. In addition to the
project management consultant, Engineers India, the services of a
reputed international consultant, Worley, Australia, were hired
for monitoring the progress of the construction and ensuring the
timely supply of material. As part of Gail's commitment to
quality, Bureau Vertias was appointed for third party quality
assurance.
