1. Boolean Searches :

i. AND - Shows results where both terms on either side of the 'AND' operator are present. 'AND' must be in upper case. For example search term - delhi AND metro result - It will return records in which 'delhi' as well as 'metro' both are present.

ii. OR - Shows results where either term (or both terms) is present. 'OR' must be in upper case. For example search term - delhi OR metro result - It will return records in which either 'delhi' or 'metro' or both are present

2. Proximity Searches

A proximity search looks for terms that are within a specific distance from one another. For example, search term - 'delhi metro'~10 result - It will search for records where 'delhi' and 'metro' are found within 10 words of each other

3. Phrase searches

You can search phrases using double quotes. for e.g. 'delhi metro' result - It will return records where 'delhi metro' phrase is found.

Here is a chronicle of orders bagged and contracts received by Indian companies during the period October to December 2004. Both domestic and overseas contracts in which at least one of the parties -- awarder or awardee -- is of Indian origin, are considered.

A. Domestic Contracts

30 December

  • Bharat Heavy Electricals has been awarded a Rs.410 crore order by Jindal Stainless for setting up a 250 MW (2 x 125 MW) power plant as part of JSL's upcoming Duburi stainless steel project. Bhel will build, supply, erect and commission two 125 MW turbine generator sets, coal-fired boilers, control & instrumentation system along with auxillaries.

27 December

  • Nagarjuna Construction Co has bagged an order worth Rs.955 crore from National Highways Authority of India for the construction of highways in Gujarat. Click here for details.

22 December

  • GTL (formerly Global Tele-Systems) has bagged an order from Nortel India to build 3,800 GSM sites in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Bihar, Chennai and Jharkhand circles for BSNL's ongoing cellular telephony network expansion. The company will provide comprehensive project management including site engineering, installation, testing, commissioning and network integration. The project is scheduled for completion by mid-2005. Nortel, on 17 December 2004, had bagged a $500 million contract from BSNL for rolling out seven million cellular mobile lines in south and east India. (Click here for details)

21 December

  • Wartsila has won its first contract for the operation and maintenance of a coal-based steam turbine generator plant of a leading cement manufacturer. (name not available). The contract is for operating and maintaining a 15-MW power plant based on Atmospheric Fluidised Bed Combustion Technology. Wartsila currently operates and maintains 57 power plants in India with total capacity 574 MW, running on heavy fuel and gas.
  • Indian Oil Corporation has signed a $29.75 million contract with Iranian Offshore Engineering & Construction Co for installation of a single point mooring system and associated pipeline system at Paradip. The contract is part of the Rs.1,200 crore (approx) Paradip-Haldia Crude Pipeline project. Click here for full story.

17 December

  • Nortel has bagged a $500 million contract from Bharat Sanchar Nigam for rolling out seven million cellular mobile lines in south and east India. (Click here for details)

14 December

  • Texmaco has bagged a Rs.38 crore order from National Thermal Power Corporation to supply merry-go-round wagons for Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power project in Bihar. The order for 200 wagons is to be executed in 27 months.

10 December

  • Thermax has bagged a Rs.90 crore order from an undisclosed steel company to supply, erect and install eight waste heat recovery boilers. Thermax would also provide piping and fittings for the boilers.

9 December

  • SembCorp Engineers & Construction has bagged the $350 million EPC contract for Essar Oil's 10.5 million tpa Vadinar refinery project. Click here for full story.

8 December

  • Bharat Heavy Electricals has bagged a turnkey contract from Uttaranchal Power Corporation for setting up a grid substation to improve power supply in Patnagar and its adjoining areas. The Rs.30 crore contract is for setting up a 220 KV grid substation and will be commissioned in 12 months. BHEL is currently executing two more turnkey contracts for UPCL -- a 220 KV for Hardwar industrial estate and a 132 KV substation at Ramnagar in Roorkee.

4 December

  • KEC International has bagged three orders from Power Grid Corporation (details not available) for the supply of transmission towers worth Rs.175 crore.

24 November

  • FFE Minerals India Pvt Ltd has bagged a Rs.358 crore contract from Vedanta Alumina for several segments pertaining to the latter's 1.4 million tpa greenfield alumina project coming up in Kalahandi district of Orissa. (Click here for full story)
  • Jyoti Structures has bagged a Rs.87 crore contract from Power Grid Corporation of India for setting up the 400 KV double circuit Patna-Balia section transmission line associated with the Kahalgaon II transmission system. The contract is to be implemented within 24 months.

23 November

  • British Gas Group, ONGC and Reliance Industries announced that a $131 million contract for increasing production from the Panna and Tapti fields has been awarded to Clough Projects of Australia. The contract involves incremental recovery of 18 million barrels of oil and 74 billion cubic feet of gas. 
  • Bharat Heavy Electricals has bagged an order from Century Textiles & Industries (Maihar Cement division) for design, engineering, manufacture, supply and erection and commissioning of a captive 15.7 MW steam turbine generator set with associated auxiliaries for Maihar Cement's captive power plant in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Bharat Heavy Electricals has bagged an order from Monnet Ispat Ltd for design, engineering, manufacture, supply and erection and commissioning of a captive 15 MW steam turbine generator set with associated auxiliaries for Monnet Ispat's captive power plant in Chhattisgarh.
  • Lee & Murihead, a logistics solution provider, has bagged large sub- contract of unspecified value for transportation of power plant equipment from Larsen & Tourbo, the EPC contract for NTPC's 660 x 3 MW Sipat thermal power plant coming up in Chhattsigarh. Lee & Murihead will transport equipment weighing 3.5 lakh tonnes in a phased manner till 2007 as it gets imported from Dossan Heavy Engineering of Korea into Visakhapatnam.

20 November

  • Siemens has bagged a Rs.23 crore from the Indian Railways for deploying a captive mobile network (GSM-R) for North Frontier Railway. Earlier in November 2004, Nortel was awarded a contract by Eastern Railway for a similar network. GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communications - Railways) is a mobile telephony technology used specifically for railways so that cell phones can be used even at very high speeds.
  • IRCON International has been awarded a road contract by the Government of Tamil Nadu for upgradation of roads from Nagapattinam to Kattumavadi and New bypasses at Nagapattinam, Tiruthuraipundi and Muttupet. The total contract valued at Rs.199 crore. The project is funded by the World Bank and IRCON has formed a joint venture with a company from Indonesia to execute the work that is targeted for completion in 36 months. IRCON is also implementing four major highway projects worth Rs.550 crore all over the country.

16 November

  • AHLCON Ready Mix Concrete -- a unit of Ahluwalia Contracts (India) -- a Rs.6.5 crore order from IRCON, a PSU under the Ministry of Railways. As per the contract, AHLCON has to supply 20,000 m3 of ready-mix concrete in ten months for IRCON's Line 3 project of Delhi Metro Corporation from Barakhamba to Dwarka. AHLCON would be setting up a dedicated plant to meet the requirement
  • Unity Infrastructure Projects has bagged a Rs.64 crore turnkey contract from Airports Authority of India for designing and construction of Terminal IB of the Mumbai Domestic Airport. UIPL, which was shortlisted from 25 bidders, would have to complete the project within six months. Terminal IB is generally used by private airlines.

9 November

  • Macneill Engineering has procured an order for supply of 54 forklifts of 1.5 tonne capacity from Larsen & Toubro for use in Indian Oil Corporation's PTA project at Panipat in Haryana. The supply is expected to be executed by March 2005.

5 November

  • Hydrocarbon Technologies Inc has bagged the contract from Oil  India carrying out Direct Coal Liquefaction (DCL) technology in India.

2 November

  • IVRCL Infrastructure & Projects has announced that the Department of Irrigation, Government of Andhra Pradesh has awarded four irrigation contracts worth Rs.923 crore to an IVRCL joint venture "IVRCL Prasad Sew JV". The company would be executing its share of the project to the extent of Rs.460 crore. Details on the other joint venture partner are not yet available.

20 October 

  • Bharat Heavy Electricals has bagged the order for supply of equipment for three captive power plants of Reliance Industries. BHEL will supply two Frame-6 gas turbine generator sets for Reliance's Hazira petrochemical plant and one such for its Jamnagar refinery. The cumulative rating of these gas turbines would be 109 MW. 

19 October 

  • Bharat Heavy Electricals has bagged the order for supply, erection and commissioning of the boiler turbine generator package for Jindal Power's 1,000 MW coal-based power plant coming up at Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh. (Click here for full story.)

15 October 

  • Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals has awarded a Rs.267 crore turnkey contract to Larsen & Toubro for upgradation of MRPL Refinery for producing Euro III/Euro IV compliant petrol. MRPL already has facilities for producing Euro III Grade High Speed Diesel Oil. The contract was awarded on 14 October 2004.

9 October 

  • Kirloskar Brothers has bagged an order worth Rs.41.40 crore for the manufacture and supply of three primary sodium pumps from Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam. The order to design, draw and manufacture and supply these pumps was received from BNVN through Nuclear Power Corporation.
  • Bharat Heavy Electricals has bagged a Rs.550 crore order for setting up a 330 MW Dholpur gas-based power plant in Rajasthan. As per the contract, whose finer details are not yet available, BHEL will set up the combined cycle  power plant for Rajasthan in Dholpur in 27 months.

8 October 

  • Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has awarded Nokia a contract for the expansion of its GSM/EDGE and GPRS network in North India. The deal is valued at more than 200 million euros (approx Rs.1,120 crore). Nokia would deploy four million lines across towns, cities, villages and all major State and national highways in Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Uttaranchal, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan.

6 October

  • Engineers India (EIL) has bagged two consultancy contracts from Hindustan Petroleum Corporation for implementing the Mundra-Delhi and the Loni (Pune)-Sholapur multiproduct pipeline projects

5 October 

  • Bajaj Electricals has bagged orders worth Rs.70 crore for the supply of transmission towers. A Rs.42.42 crore order has been placed by Power Grid Corporation of India for the supply and installation of 2x43 kV double circuit LILO transmission line at Almatti in Tamil Nadu. Another order of Rs.21.28 crore has been received from Andhra Pradesh Transmission Co for supply of 220 kV/132 kV transmission line towers. It has also bagged a Rs.6.76 crore export order from Jaguar Overseas to supply 115 kV double circuit transmission lines to Laos.

2 October

  • Bharat Heavy Electricals has bagged an order worth Rs.800 crore from the West Bengal Power Development Corporation for erection, testing and commissioning of a 250 MW power plant at Santaldih in West Bengal on a turnkey basis. The project is expected to be commissioned within 33 months.

B. Overseas Contracts

29 December 

  • Gammon India has bagged a Rs.640 crore (147.3 million) order from the government of Oman for executing a water transmission system at Sohar. The project, awarded by Oman's Ministry of Housing, Electricity & Water, would have to be completed within 20 months. The turnkey order, Gammon's largest overseas, will be executed by Gammon's joint venture in Oman where Gammon owns 85 per cent. The project involves construction of a 398 km pipeline and 13 reservoirs to supply drinking water to three towns. The project would supply water from a 20 million gallon per day desalination plant being built by South Korea's Doosan Heavy Industries.

11 December 

  • Gujarat Welspun Stahl Rohren has bagged a Rs.500 crore order for the supply of 69,000 tonnes of coated SAW pipes to National Iranian Gas Company. On 23 November 2004, it had bagged a similar order from a US-based energy company. (Click here for details)

7 December 

  • PSL has won an order worth $9 million (Rs.41 crore) to design and set up a 75,000 tpa steel pipe mill in Kazakhastan. The order, placed by Ispat Karmet (LN Mittal group), includes turnkey design, engineering, supply, erection and commissioning.

4 December 

  • KEC International has won an order worth Rs.120 crore from Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority for the supply and installation of 94 km of 220 KV double circuit overhead lines.
  • Water & Power Consultancy (India)  has bagged a Rs.351 crore order for the reconstruction of the Salma Dam project in Afghanistan. (Click here for full story) 

23 November 

  • Welspun Gujarat Stahl Rohren has bagged a Rs.510 crore ($117 million) order to supply pipelines to Enterprise Products Partners LP of the USA. The pipes will be used in the world's deepest pipeline project in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. The Welspun group, the only Indian entity in the fray, sustained competition from other major players like Europipes of Germany, Sumitomo of Japan and Corus of UK. The order comprises of 95,000 tonnes to be supplied by September 2005. Production is likely to commence by March 2005.

6 October 

  • Bharat Heavy Electricals has bagged a Rs.115 crore order from the Sultanate of Oman. The order involves supply of three compressor packages to Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). The compressors will be installed at Yibal, about 500 Km from Muscat. The order has to be executed by March 2006.

3 October

  • Diamond Cables has bagged an order for supply of low voltage cables from Eurostar, which is constructing the London-Paris tunnel rail link. The contract is valued at $3 million (approx Rs.14 crore).
