US-based energy major, AES Corporation, is
bidding for the 1,000 MW Anpara-C thermal power project in Uttar Pradesh.
It is learnt that eight companies have bid for
the Anpara project and Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd is likely to select
the final developer in April 2005. The Rs.4,000 crore is targeted for completion
in 48 months from zero date.
AES, with 49 per cent stake in Orissa Power
Generation Corporation, manages the two generation units of 210 MW of OPGC's Ib
Thermal Power plant. An expansion project of setting up two more units of 250 MW
each is also underway. The project, for which the foundation stone was laid in
2004, is scheduled for completion in March 2008.
AES entered India in 1998 when the Orissa
government invited international bidders to pick up stake in OPGC, as per the
state's Electricity Reform Act, 1995.
