National Hydropower Corporation on 30 March 2005 awarded the
electro-mechanical package of the 2,000 MW Lower Subansiri hydropower project in
Arunachal Pradesh to Alstom.
The order that has been placed on Alstom Power
Hydralique of France in consortium of Alstom Projects India Ltd is valued at
Rs.1,550 crore. Of this contract value, Alstom Projects India will supply
equipment and services worth Rs.745 crore.
It may be recalled that NHPC had shortlisted
Alstom for the project -- a move that was contested by Bharat Heavy Electricals
who had also bid for the project. The deal was audited by the HL Bajaj
Committee, which upon inspection, vindicated NHPC's stand.
