Hindustan Zinc's new 1.7 lakh tpa zinc smelter at
Chanderiya in Rajasthan went into commercial production on 25 June 2005. The
smelter had reached mechanical completion in early June 2005.
The smelter has taken HZL's total zinc smelting
capacity to 4 lakh tpa, making it the world's sixth-largest zinc producer in the
world.
The Rs.1,500 crore project also included a
captive power plant of 154 MW and the expansion of mining capacity of the
Rampura-Agucha mines to 3.8 million tpa.
The zinc smelter is based on the latest
energy-efficient technology and has deployed the services of leading engineering
names like ABB, BHEL, Honeywell, Lurgi, L&T, Siemens, Outokompu and Uhde.
