The detailed feasibility report of Bharat
Petroleum's 6 million tpa Bina refinery project in Madhya Pradesh is likely to
be ready in August 2005, it is learnt.
Meanwhile, Engineers India is currently preparing
the project configuration report and the cost escalation report. The refinery is
likely to cost around Rs.9,000 crore, up from Rs.6,354 crore estimated in 2001.
When conceived in 1995, the refinery was estimated to cost Rs.5,277 crore.
The project is likely to undergo a change in
scope. The refinery capacity might be increased to 9 million tpa, with 6 million
tpa targeted for Phase I. BPCL has also proposed to install a fluid catalytic
cracking unit that would enable the refinery to produce petrochemical feedstock
for polypropylene, polystyrene, etc.
The refinery, proposed to be set up through
Bharat Oman Refineries, a BPCL subsidiary, is scheduled for commissioning by
April 2009.
