Defence Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee along with
the group of ministers on 30 August 2005, gave in principle clearances for the
Delhi Metro's Phase II project. The proposed project is expected to cost
Rs.8,000 crore.
The empowered group of ministers on Delhi's Rapid
Transit System also gave the nod for the Central Secretariat Mehrauli line, one
of the six lines planned in Phase II. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation was asked to
conduct feasibility study about the metro stretch near Qutab Minar.
Work on the project is expected to start this
year, and is scheduled for completion before the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
