Toyo Engineering Corporation has
bagged the contract for setting up a C2/C3 extraction unit for Oil & Natural
Gas Corporation at Dahej in Gujarat. The order, valued at 20 billion yen ($168
million or Rs.750 crore), will employ Toyo's proprietary technology to extract
ethane, propane and butane from liquefied natural gas. The plant will come up
near Petronet LNG's Dahej terminal in Gujarat and will use LNG from the Dahej
terminal.
The plant, stated to be the world's
largest of its kind, will process 5 million tonnes of LNG per year. The plant
will not extract methane, so that the regasified LNG can be used as fuel. The
extracted fractions -- ethane, propane and butane -- will be used as feedstock
for a downstream petrochemical plant that ONGC proposes to set up. The ethane
content in the LNG is estimated at 5 per cent, and that of propane, 2-3 per
cent.
The order that has been won with a
local company (name unknown) covers design, construction and procurement of
equipment and material.
