The Dow Chemical Co. plans to set up a
downstream facility at the petrochemicals complex being set up by Reliance
Petroleum in the Jamnagar SEZ. The proposed project will entail an investment of
Rs.5,000 crore.
This facility coming up on an area of
1,000 acres of land, adjacent to RIL's existing 6.6 lakh barrels a day refinery
will use products of new refinery to make super speciality petrochemicals. [The
Naphtha, paraxylene, petcoke and aromatics to be produced by the refinery will
be used by Dow as feedstock.]
The downstream facility in the
Jamnagar SEZ will have several advantages, including the opportunity to source
raw material from RPL and export the finished products to China and European
markets through the world-class port.
The SEZ will be expanded to 10,000
acres as the new 5.8 lakh barrels a day export oriented refinery comes up along
with allied units.
