Maharashtra State Power Generation Co
has re-invited bids for the 500 MW Khaperkheda expansion project coming up in
Nagpur district. Bids have been invited on global basis for design, engineering,
manufacture, testing and commissioning of the main plant package of the power
plant. The last date of submitting bids is 20 July 2006.
Mahagenco, it may be recalled,
received Maharashtra Cabinet clearance for the project on 3 May 2006.
It is worthwhile to note that bids for
the Khaperkheda power project had been invited in December 2005 -- a process
that was recalled in April 2006. Explaining the situation to ProjectsToday,
highly-placed officials of Mahagenco stated that the state cabinet clearance
that Mahagenco had received for the project in March 2005 was technically
incomplete. Although some formalities were pending, Mahangenco had proceeded
with the tendering in anticipation of securing all clearances. With the full
clearance not in place, Mahagenco was forced to withdraw the tendering process.
This time around, all clearances are
well in place. Mahagenco is also expected to begin pre-project work on three
other projects -- Parli (250 MW), Paras (250 MW) and Bhusawal (1,000 MW) -- all
of which were cleared earlier this month along with the Khaperkheda project.
