Bharat Petroleum Corporation is
scheduled to formally inaugurate its lube oil base stock project today, 27 May
2006, at the hands of Union petroleum minister, Mr Murli Deora. The 1.8 lakh tpa
LOBS unit, set up within the existing Mahul refinery premises in Mumbai,
entailed investment of Rs.371 crore. This is the first LOBS/hydrocracker unit in
the country, according to a BPCL release.
The LOBS unit will produce three
grades -- 100N, 150N and 500N -- of high performance lube oils that will meet
BPCL's captive demand as well as domestic demand. BPCL would use these lube oils
for its value-added lubricants being sold under the Mak brand.
