Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has won
the electro-mechanical package contract for two hydropower projects of Andhra
Pradesh Power Generation Corporation. The contracts were won under international
competitive bidding with competition from European and Chinese companies,
according to a company release.
Together valued at nearly Rs.82 Crore,
the orders pertain to Nagarjunasagar
Tail Pond Dam (2x25 MW) and Sriramsagar
HEP Extension (1x9 MW)
While Sriramsagar project, an
expansion project of an existing power station is slated for completion in a
schedule of 20 months, the greenfield Nagarjunasagar Tail Pond Dam project is
targeted for completion in 26 months. BHEL had earlier supplied, erected &
commissioned generating equipment at Sriramsagar HEP (2x9 MW).
BHEL's scope of work in the present
contracts envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, testing and
supervision of erection and commissioning of three vertical Kaplan turbines
(2x25 MW & 1x9 MW) along with matching synchronous generators and
microprocessor-based control and excitation equipment, besides other associated
auxiliaries.
BHEL has so far manufactured and
supplied nearly 400 hydro generating sets with a cumulative capacity of over
16,500 MW to various utilities in India and abroad. These include 35 hydro sets
corresponding to 1409 MW outside India, in various countries including Nepal,
Malaysia, Thailand, New Zealand, Azerbaijan, Taiwan and Bhutan.
