The Supreme Court, on 10 August 2006,
reserved its judgement on the Mumbai and Delhi airport modernisation and
privatization case. The same will be delivered by the first week of September
2006.
The judgement will be in response to
the Reliance Group's (Anil Ambani faction) plea challenging the award process.
Reliance Energy has challenged the finalization of contracts and has alleged
that different yardsticks were used in selection process with a view to edging
out the Anil Ambani group that had bid for both airports.
The two airports have already been
handed over to the private sector developers on 3 August 2006. There is a
possibility that if the Supreme Court so directs, ante status quo would
be restored, implying that the privatization process can be rolled back.
