The Central government is likely to
sanction two major infrastructure projects - Middle Vaitarana water supply
project (Rs.1,600 crore) and Mumbai sewerage disposal project (Rs.2,376 crore)
by 11 September 2006 under theJawaharlal National Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM).
It is learnt that the Cabinet
Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) and the planning commission has already
cleared the proposed projects. The funding mechanism for NURM project provides
for only 35 percent share by the centre and the state government and local civic
body have to bear 15 per cent and 50 per cent share respectively.
The planning commission has also
agreed for an independent funding for the Rs.1,800 crore Brimstowad (Brihanmumbai
storm water drains) upgradation project.
