On 19 June 2007, Union Power Minister,
Mr.Sushil Kumar Shinde laid the foundation stone for Damodar Valley
Corporation's (2x500 MW) Unit 7 & 8
Mejia II expansion project in Bankura district of West Bengal.
The plant will entail an investment of
Rs.4,500 crore and is scheduled for completion by 2010. Bharat Heavy Electricals
is the EPC contractor for the project.
The Power Minister also laid the
foundation stone for DVC's 1,000 MW (2x500 MW)
thermal power plant Stage-I at Raghunathpur in Purulia district of West
Bengal. The company has recently received in-principle approval from the
Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) for the proposed Rs.4,000 crore
project.
