Siemens Mobility received baggage
handling contract worth Rs.300 crore for Delhi International Airport for the new
Terminal 3 at Delhi International Airport.
According to the contract, bags will
be handed in at 168 check-in desks at the departures level of the terminal,
which covers an area of 520,000 m2. For oversize luggage, there will be five
desks available. A total of 28 X-ray stations will be integrated in the system
so that all baggage can be subjected to a 100 per cent security inspection. The
sorting system has been designed for a capacity of over 11,300 bags per hour and
has a total length of almost 13 kilometers. Tilt-tray sorters as well as
vertical sorters and high-speed diverters will be used. In addition, the system
includes make-up carousels. At the arrivals level of the new terminal, twelve
baggage claim systems will ensure problem-free distribution of baggage to
travelers.
The work order is scheduled to be
commissioned by March 2010.
