Around fifteen urea units of major fertiliser companies will be the first
beneficiaries of 14 million cubic mtrs per day of gas from Reliance Industries'
(RIL) block in the Krishna-Godavari (KG) basin. RIL is expected to begin
production from its D6 block by end-February.
The fertiliser companies that will get the gas supply are - Chambal Fertilizers
and Chemicals, Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO), Krishak Bharati
Cooperative (KRIBHCO), Tata Fertilizers and Indo Gulf Fertilizers, a unit of
Aditya Birla Nuvo. IFFCO will receive around 3.5 million cubic mtrs per day of
gas for its five urea units while Chambal Fertilizers will get around 1.1
million cubic mtrs per day. This allocation of gas from the KG basin will help
produce additional 1-1.5 million tonne of urea per annum.
The Ratnagiri Gas and Power Projects (RGPPL), formerly called Dabhol Power
Company, will be the only power company to get gas after the demand from the
fertiliser companies is met. RGPPL will receive 8.4 million cubic mtrs per day
of gas from the KG basin from October this year as the company has already tied
up with Gail for buying 5.4 million cubic mtrs per day of gas till September.
The gas will help RGPPL generate power at its full capacity of 2,150 MW.
