DMRC is planning to invest Rs one lakh crore in the Metro rail projects that
are under consideration for major cities in India over the nest ten years.
Currently, Metro rail projects are in progress at various stages in Mumbai,
Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, while projects are under evaluation for Pune,
Lucknow, Kochi, Ludhiana and Jaipur among others. As number of projects under
implementation for modern mass transportation is on rise, DMRC is now keen to
offer its consultancy to other cities as well as other nations. It is likely to
expand its network to 190 km by 2010. India is likely to require 250-300 coaches
per year.
Meanwhile, DMRC has launched the Bombardier MOVIA metro train at its new
facility in Savli, Vadodara. The new metro train is part of an order for 424
MOVIA metro cars for DMRC and was built in 24 months including the time it took
to construct the new manufacturing facility.
