Apollo Tyres expects its greenfield facility near Chennai to commence
production from November 2009.
The plant will make truck and bus radials and ultra-high-performance
passenger car radial tyres and is expected to have a capacity to produce 8,000
tyres a day. The company is setting up the plant at Oragadam, an industrial
suburb to the west of Chennai, at an investment of over Rs 500 crore.
However, the company has deferred its plans to set up a greenfield plant in
Hungary due to the economic slowdown. The company was to invest Euro 200 million
(approx Rs 1,360 crore) in the project.
