CIL, GAIL and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) are planning to come
together to revive the closed unit of Fertilizer Corporation of India at Talcher
in Orissa, at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore. The plant has been closed since 2002.
The plant is expected to run on the coal gasification route instead of the
natural gas route as bringing of natural gas from Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh) to
Talcher through pipe line is very difficult. Post revival, the plant is likely
to produce three million tpa of fertilisers.
