The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has prepared a PPP model for
setting up 20 Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) under which the
expenditure could be shared in the ratio of 85:15 between the government and
industry.
Each IIIT is expected to be set up at an investment of Rs 200 crore. Of the
85 per cent spending, the Union Government will provide for 50 per cent and the
state government will bear 35 per cent of the expenditure.
As per sources, the Planning Commission has given in-principle approval for
it. Now the proposal is to be considered by the Expenditure Finance Committee.
