The Belagavi civic body has extended its 24X7 water supply scheme to four additional wards, raising the total to 14 out of 58 wards, covering about 24 percent of the city.
Initially launched a decade ago in 10 wards, the project received approval in 2018-19 and has been rolled out in phases. Of the new additions, two wards fall under Belagavi North Assembly constituency and two under Belagavi South. The remaining 44 wards continue to depend on the older system, which provides water twice weekly. Both networks draw water from the Hidkal dam and Rakkasakoppa reservoir.
The scheme was inaugurated on August 15 by PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi along with MLAs Abhay Patil and Asif (Raju) Sait. The Minister noted that Kanabaragi and nearby areas will gain continuous supply for around 2,000 homes, while MLA Patil highlighted that 1,500 households in Rani Channamma Nagar would benefit.
The Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) and L&T implemented the service under the Karnataka Urban Water Supply Modernization Project (KUWSMP).
