Steps are underway to establish a solar power project in the Rayalaseema region with a total capacity of 5,000 MW.
The Reliance Group will set up the project across 95,000 acres in Amadagur, OD Cheruvu, and Nalladistrict. In the first phase, the solar project will span 25,000 acres in Amadagur mandal. The project is expected to create direct employment for around 4,500 people, along with providing indirect livelihood opportunities. Puttaparthi MLA Palle Raghunath Reddy, who accompanied Reliance representatives, “As a first phase, Reliance is ready to enter into agreements with farmers to produce 5,000mw of solar powermandal. Farmers will be paid `30,000 per acre per year, with a 5 per cent hike every two years, under a 30-yefarmers’ consent.”
The project takes advantage of the region’s favourable climate for solar and wind energy, which has attracted significant investment in the area. Reliance also plans to extend the solar initiative to an additional 70,000 acres in OD Cheruvu and Nalladistrict.
