The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has given approval for expansion of the Tiruchchirappalli international airport, in Tamil Nadu.
The expansion work is expected to commence in July 2014. The arrival side will be expanded by around 100 mtr and the departure side by 80 mtr. Further, five more aero bridges are proposed at the project site, which will increase the aero bridges tally to seven. Two more aircraft bays have also been proposed. At present, the airport has seven bays.
Expansion of the project will entail an investment of Rs 50 crore and blueprint of the project has already been submitted to AAI for approval.
Post expansion, the passengers' accommodation capacity of the international airport will be increased from the existing 400 to 800.
