The Maharashtra government has approved a proposal to raise Rs 6,000 crore for land acquisition for the Purandar airport project.
The approval was granted by the State Cabinet on 10 February, 2026. According to Principal Secretary (Industries) P Anbalagan, the loan will be used to acquire land for the greenfield airport, with the special purpose vehicle (SPV) already in place for project execution. CIDCO holds a 51 percent stake in the SPV, while MIDC, PMRDA, and MADC hold 15 percent, 15 percent, and 19 percent stakes, respectively. The government is considering various funding options, with HUDCO offering around Rs 3,000 crore, and plans to invite commercial bids for the most favourable deal. The loan repayment will be shared by the SPV partners based on their stake in the project.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, emphasised that the Purandar airport would significantly enhance development in Pune and western Maharashtra, benefiting industries, business, tourism, and agricultural exports.
