Pantnagar Airport in Uttarakhand is set for a significant upgrade, aiming to transform into a major aviation hub.
The expansion includes a new 3,000-mtrs. runway, replacing the current 1,340-mtrs. one, allowing larger aircraft such as Boeing and Airbus models to operate. This improvement will enhance air connectivity between Kumaon’s hill districts and major cities across the country. The first phase of the project involves the construction of a new terminal building, estimated at Rs 387 crore. The terminal, spanning 8,500 sq. mtrs., will handle 475 passengers at a time and over one million annually. It will feature two aerobridges, escalators, food courts, retail outlets, and car rental services. Additionally, the expansion will introduce cargo services for the first time, facilitating quicker transportation of agricultural produce, industrial goods, and local products.
Pawan Kumar, Director of Pantnagar Airport, stated, "Pantnagar airport serves as the main air gateway to Kumaon. Its expansion will improve connectivity and support economic activity in the region."
