The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has formally requested the Ghaziabad administration to allocate nine hectares of land for the expansion of the civil terminal at Hindon Airport, Sikandarpur.
Officials stated that the facility, spread over 22,050 sq. mtrs. (two hectares), is currently operating at optimum capacity, handling a daily footfall of over 5,000 passengers across 50 flights connecting 25 cities. Civil Airport Director Umesh Yadav said, " An expansion plan is being discussed at the highest level in AAI. For now, we have asked the district officials to provide nine hectares of land for expanding the airport to cater to rising demand.”
The terminal, operational since October 2019, caters to passengers from Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh, offering flights to Kolkata, Chennai, Goa, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jammu, Varanasi, Patna, and other cities. Currently, with only two parking bays, delays often disrupt operations. Ghaziabad MP Atul Garg, also Airport Advisory Committee Chairperson, said expansion will include more parking bays, noting he had earlier urged AAI to adjust flight frequency.
