The Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (APMRC) signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with leading consultancies TIPSA and SYSTRA on 25 July, 2025 to provide design, supervision, and technical support for metro rail projects in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.
The agreements were formalised at the APCRDA office in Vijayawada in the presence of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Dr P Narayana. Under the MoUs, TIPSA will handle the design and supervision for the Vijayawada Metro, while SYSTRA will provide technical and execution support for the Visakhapatnam Metro.
Minister Narayana noted that these initiatives are being implemented under the commitments of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. Funding for the projects will be sourced as follows: 20 percent from the Central government, 20 percent from the State, and 60 percent through a low-interest loan arranged by the Centre. Vizag Metro’s Phase 1 will cover 46.23 km, and Vijayawada Metro’s Phase 1 will span 35.04 km. To optimise space, double-decker corridors of 20 km in Vizag and 4.7 km in Vijayawada are planned.
