Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) has forayed into the cooling solutions sector with projects totalling 52,000 tonne of refrigeration (TR), including India’s largest district cooling facility at Mundra, Gujarat, with a 45,000 TR capacity.
A 7,000 TR system is also underway at Adani Shantigram Township in Ahmedabad. These centralised systems offer chilled water for cooling needs, replacing conventional air-conditioners and improving energy efficiency by at least 20 percent, according to Kandarp Patel, CEO, AESL. AESL has established a wholly-owned subsidiary, Adani Cooling Solutions to provide these services.
The company’s business model uses large centralised stations distributing chilled water via underground pipes to users on a metered, pay-per-use basis—cutting costs on electricity, water, and maintenance. A joint study with Cushman & Wakefield estimates a potential cooling market of 43 million TR in India, with 11 million TR concentrated in Tier-1 cities and AESL targeting 1.6 million TR.
The GIFT City in Gujarat currently hosts India’s only operational district cooling system with 10,000 TR capacity, planned to scale up to 1,80,000 TR. AESL is also accelerating its smart meter business, aiming for over one crore installations by FY26-end. It installed 24 lakh meters in Q1.
