Adani Green Energy plans to more than double its battery energy storage systems (BESS) capacity at the Khavda renewable energy park in Gujarat, aiming to reach over seven GWh by FY27.
The expansion is supported by a substantial capex investment of Rs 25,000–Rs 40,000 crore. The company is set to commission 3.5 GWh of storage capacity by the end of FY26. Battery storage has become a strategic priority for Adani Green as grid augmentation delays hinder power evacuation from the Khavda site, located near the India-Pakistan border in Kutch district. CEO Ashish Khanna emphasised that the short-term goal of the storage project is to absorb power that would otherwise be curtailed, while long-term storage capacity aligns with the company's project commissioning timeline.
The 3.5 GWh of storage planned by March-end is set to become India's largest battery storage project.
