Adani Power has received a letter of award (LoA) from Bihar State Power Generation Company (BSPGCL) for a 25-year long-term electricity procurement agreement.
The supply will come from a 2,400 MW (3x800 MW) greenfield ultra-supercritical thermal power plant to be developed at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur district, Bihar. The contract, awarded on behalf of North Bihar Power Distribution Company (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company (SBPDCL), will be formalised with a Power Supply Agreement (PSA).
Adani Power emerged as the lowest bidder in BSPGCL’s tariff-based competitive process, quoting Rs 6.075 per KWh. The company plans to invest around USD three billion in the project, which will create 10,000–12,000 employment during construction and 3,000 permanent roles upon commissioning. This initiative supports Bihar’s growing energy needs amid India’s rising power demand, projected to reach 400 GW by 2031-32 and over 700 GW by 2047.
