Adani Power has entered into a 25-year power supply agreement (PSA) with Bihar State Power Generation Company (BSPGCL) to supply 2,400 MW from a greenfield ultra-supercritical thermal plant at Pirpainti, Bhagalpur.
The Rs 24,900 crore (USD three billion) project, structured under the design, build, finance, own, operate (DBFOO) model, will comprise three units of 800 MW each and aims for commissioning within 60 months. Adani Power secured the bid by offering the lowest tariff of Rs 6.075 per kWh. Coal linkage for the project is assured under the Government of India’s SHAKTI Policy. The project is expected to create employment for 10,000–12,000 people during construction and another 3,000 work opportunities in operations.
With this, Adani Power expands its portfolio beyond its 18,110 MW of existing thermal capacity across eight states and 40 MW of solar in Gujarat. The firm was recently awarded a 1,600 MW project in Madhya Pradesh worth Rs 21,000 crore at Rs 5.838 per kWh. Over the past year, Adani Power has secured five large PSAs, adding 7,200 MW to its order book.
