The Aditya Birla Group has acquired Chlor-Alkali & Phosphoric Acid Division (CA&P Division) of Solaris Chemtech Industries.
The Board of Directors of Aditya Birla Chemicals (India) (ABCIL) approved the acquisition which is valued at Rs 153 crore. The deal will enable ABCIL's entry into the Southern Indian market and will also enable the addition of phosphoric acid to its current product portfolio. The transaction is subject to statutory and regulatory approvals.
CA&P Division has three units: two in Karnataka and one in Gujarat. In Karwar, Karnataka, the company has a caustic soda manufacturing facility with an installed capacity of 60,000 tpa and a phosphoric acid plant with an installed capacity of 24,000 tpa. While in Gujarat, it has salt works spread over 3,000 acre.
However, the caustic soda plant has not been operational since December 2012 because the mercury-based technology had to be shut down as per the statutory requirement. ABCIL plans to convert the mercury plant into membrane-based cell technology.
