The Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) has launched two transformative urban infrastructure projects — Aero City and Knowledge City, with a combined investment of Rs 1,240 crore. These flagship developments aim to enhance city planning, boost the local economy, and provide residential and commercial spaces.
Aero City, being developed near Chakeri airport at a cost of Rs 360 crore, will span 300 acres and follow a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Designed as an aerotropolis, it will integrate modern infrastructure with residential, commercial, and economic activities, offering seamless connectivity through national highways. The project is expected to attract significant investor interest, meeting the growing demand for air travel-linked urban expansion.
Simultaneously, Knowledge City is being established near IIT Kanpur across 359 acres with an investment of Rs 880 crore. This project is focused on fostering education, research, and innovation, with the objective of transforming the area into a knowledge and technology hub. Both projects are being implemented under the Uttar Pradesh housing department’s vision, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. KDA is currently executing 61 projects with a cumulative budget of Rs 37,623 crore, signaling a major push towards modernizing Kanpur’s urban landscape.
