Amway, an American conglomerate, has commenced work in its manufacturing plant at Nilakkottai in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu.
The proposed plant is expected to be up and running by June 2015. The project will come up over a 50 acre area which the company acquired from SIPCOT (State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu). It is being constructed by Shapoorji Pallonji Construction at an estimated cost of Rs 400 crore. The facility will have nine production lines for nutrition, cosmetic, and oral-care products. It will have an installed capacity of 1.2 billion tablets and softgel; seven million canisters of drink mixes; 19 million tubes, jars and bottles of personal care products; and 60 million tubes of Glister toothpaste.
The company is also planning to set up an R&D centre in India.
