Andhra Pradesh has achieved a major milestone as its thermal power generation surpassed 6,000 MW, ensuring reliable electricity for growing industrial and domestic demand.
APGENCO Managing Director S Nagalakshmi said operational efficiency improved across plants through equipment restoration, focused maintenance, and supply of high and medium Gross Calorific Value (GCV) coal to key stations such as Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station and Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project. Technical interventions, including Electrostatic Precipitator restoration and ID fan blade rectifications, helped increase output by up to 200 MW at some units. Financial stability also played a key role, with a Rs 1,000-crore working capital loan and Capex loans supporting modernisation and efficient fuel supply.
Negotiations with banks reduced interest costs, saving Rs 60 crore annually, while strategic coordination with coal suppliers and advance payments to washeries ensured continuous operations. These combined operational and financial measures enabled APGENCO to achieve a record thermal power output of 6,009 MW, strengthening the state’s energy security.
