The Andhra Pradesh government is spending Rs 8,000 crore for establishing new medical colleges, one in each Parliamentary constituency in the state, as a step towards enhancing medical education and accessibility to healthcare infrastructure.
Special Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Mr. Krishna Babu informed that the five new medical colleges in Vizianagaram, Eluru, Machilipatnam, Rajamahendravaram, and Nandyal would be ready to start the admissions process soon. The cost of construction is Rs 500 crore for each medical college, and more than 1,000 employees will be recruited in each college.
As many as 750 new MBBS seats will be available from the current year. Further, nine more medical colleges would be constructed at different locations, including Paderu, Pulivendula, and Adoni. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has permitted admissions in the new colleges.
Recently, inspection of the works nearing completion at the new medical college at Gajularega, on the outskirts of Vizianagaram was coducted.
