The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to provide a guarantee for a Rs 1,000-crore financing to the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation (APADCL) to support the development of multiple greenfield airports.
According to G.O. Ms. No.8, issued by Secretary (Infrastructure & Investment- Airports) N Yuvaraj, the loan will be used primarily for land acquisition and external infrastructure development at Kuppam, Dagadarthi, Srikakulam, and Amaravati airports.
The broader plan includes developing eight greenfield airports at Srikakulam, Bhogapuram, Tuni-Annavaram, Tadepalligudem, Ongole, Kuppam, Dagadarthi, and Nagarjuna Sagar, alongside operationalising the Bhogapuram International Airport to enhance regional connectivity and stimulate economic growth. The government also aims to establish a greenfield international airport at Amaravati.
An in-principle administrative sanction of Rs 1,570.64 crore has been approved for land acquisition for these projects. The APADCL Managing Director was instructed to approach financial institutions to mobilise funds, leading to a request for a ‘shortfall government guarantee’ to secure the Rs 1,000 crore loan from HUDCO.
The Techno-Economic Feasibility Report (TeFR) has been completed for Kuppam and Dagadarthi, while studies for Srikakulam and Amaravati are in progress. Development of the four airports will proceed under Phase 1.
