ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AMNS India) has commissioned a new continuous galvanising line (CGL) at its Hazira plant in Gujarat to produce advanced high-strength steel (AHSS) for the automotive sector.
The new line is part of the company’s Rs 60,000 crore expansion project aimed at increasing the Hazira plant's capacity from nine million tonne (MT) to 15 MT. The newly commissioned CGL can manufacture AHSS with strength levels up to 1,180 megapascals (MPa), enabling exceptional safety, durability, and sustainability for modern automotive applications.
"We can proudly say that the new line and upcoming facilities are designed to produce steel that matches the quality of offerings currently available in developed nations," said AMNS India CEO Dilip Oommen during a virtual interaction. AMNS India stated that it is now the first company in India to produce the highest-strength steel for the automotive industry. The project aligns with India’s goal of self-reliance in advanced steel manufacturing.
Additionally, AMNS India is working towards scaling up total production capacity to 24 MTPA. The company is also progressing with plans to establish integrated steel plants in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
