Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland will temporarily shut their factories on the back of slump in demand for commercial vehicles (CVs).
The companies will shut the plant to avoid inventory build-up.
Ashok Leyland will close its Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand for 12 working days from 11 July 2019 to 24 July 2019, while Tata Motors will observe closure for two days, 13 July 2019 and 22 July 2019.
Ashok Leyland’s sales fell 23 percent at 8,123 units in June 2019, while Tata Motors’ volumes declined 19 percent at 9,358 units.
Overall CV sales fell 12 percent at 70,771 units in June 2019 and for Q1/FY20 the volumes fell 10 percent at 2.08 lakh units.
